Picture spreads beyond limits of the screen size

I have a JVC AV27Wf36 27" Flat Sceen TV. The Picture looks like it is too big for the screen. Like it thinks I have a widescreen. I loose parts of the picture on both sides. The picture is also not evenly stretched. the corners are pulled out farther than the middle. Of Course it is a couple of months out of warranty.
