There is a Sony camcorder we bought about 6 months ago that plays both Hi8 and digital 8 cassettes. It was only about $300 or so. Besides it replacing our Canon E61 as a camcorder, we also used it to copy the old Hi8 tapes from the Canon E61 that died to DVD (can also be done to VHS using the RCA jacks).
