No power on 18 month old JVC

Looks like some people have the same problem- my 18 month old JVC just didn't turn on one day. Called support. They said--- "sorry, no warranty, thanks for calling JVC." $700.00 is a lot of money to waste on a TV. I could have rented one for that price. Any SPECIFIC suggestions on trying to fix it myself and not throw good $$$ after bad???
