Camera Will NOT open

Is there anyone out there that can PLEASE help me with this problem??? When you open the compartment to put a tape in/take one out, the little door that's supposed to pop up doesn't... It stays there, and there's no way for me to put a tape in, or take one out. Is there something I can do to it, other than take it to a repair shop, where it will cost me more to fix than the camera cost in the first place???
