Re: JVC service or questions

Kevin Posted Nov 05, 2006, in response to:Stacy Sample

Hi i was wondering if you can help me with this problem i am having with my jvc dv camera, it is a GR-D250U and it has been working totally fine until my sister ruined one of my tapes and i put the tape back together with some superglue and the video cam did show video and sound but then i kept hearing the cam make an agitated sound like its being forced to rewind but then i keep trying to rewind it but i goes into safeguard mode and tells me to check my tape and i did and now even with a tape that isnt even broken, that is basically new and i try to play it but all i see is blue screen when i try to play it and now i dont know how to show any video or sound and ive tryied everything but still nothing happends. It doesnt even show the date and time on the tape either. So if u can help me troubleshoot this problem that would be great, thanks.

I have to unfortunately advise you that there is a great chance that you have sheared the video drum heads off, this being an expensive repair. Its bad enough to use sellotape etc to join cassette tapes on a VHS machine, but using superglue, which as you know dries hard, is just inviting the super-delicate wafer thin ferrite video heads (which are also for digital audio) to shear off as soon as they hit the joint in the tape due to the high speed that the drum spins at. I would like to be able to give better news but that is the technical facts of the matter, no joining of cassette tapes should ever be attempted nomatter how well it may appear to have been done.
