trying to get a subwoofer going for the dvd hookup

i have a sony hcd-rg70av. not sure where the manual is, but the question is generic - i have a "woofer" output, and a rca phono plug coming out of it, the other end of which is a 1/4 inch phone plug, like a guitar jack - plugged into a 100 watt bass guitar amp. which doesn't seem to be getting any signal at all from the player/reciever - all the other options work, center, left, right, and even the pro-logic rear speakers. wattup?
