importing video

This camera is a hard disk camcorder and does not have a place for a firewire cord. I know I can use an USB cord but with the editing software I'm using (Sony-Vegas 6.0) the files are not readable (they aren't even readable in Windows Movie Maker) How can I copy my video files onto my hard drive so I can import them into an editing program?
