have no idea

I'm having an error code C:31:30 when there is no cassette every thing is fine, but when ever i put in a tape you can hear the gear spining real fast but the tape is not spining and then the error C:31:30 comes on the display, also when u eject the tape you can also hear the the gears spining.Please can you help me fix my problem. It's a Sony DCR-VX2100 digital video camera recorder.
