problem downloading video from my Everio GZ-MG77 camcorder to computer

I can't find my video files on my computer. I hook the camera up to the computer with the usb cord and go to mycomputer/everio_hdd/SD_Video/PRG001 under this last folder are the files (i think) MOV001 MOV002 etc...but when i open them a media program opens like it's about to play it and does nothing. And when I try to find the files in my video editing software the PRG001 folder is empty...Am I doing somthing wrong?
