TV makes a lot of noise on warmup. Problem is getting worse.

I have a JVC 33" (?) color TV from 1999. During the last three months it makes terrible "warm up noises" when starting cold. This goes on for maybe 10 minutes. I've resorted to starting the TV on the XM music channels since you don't hear the problem then. This leads me to believe that it is something associated with the picture and not the audio. Unfortunately things have gotten much worse recently and whenever the TV is on, even if it is warm, it makes loud, terrible sounds when changing scenes even on the same channel. Any advice on cause and/or price to fix would be appreciated.
