Rear projection 60" Mitsubishi....

after 19 years with no problems, this $4000 tv suddenly made a low POP, video collapsed to 3 horizontal lines and formed a V dead center that went to the bottom of the screen. That was it - audio is fine, video is gone. A local tech came out, didn't see anything obvious but feels the flyback is OK. Despite any signs of damage, he assumed capacitors leaked and corroded the main board. He guesses the board is about $500 if still available so "it's not worth fixing" There's no charred smell either. Too many assumptions for me to believe with no evidence. Any ideas haw to save it?
