I can't get the tape out that's in the unit, I cannot playback the tape.

The tape tray slieds out, but does not pop iup to allow me to remove the tape. I intermittently get messages that the unit is in safegaurd mode. If I try to press record, I get the message : check tape erase tab. Pleas help, I really want ot use this again. When it stopped working, months ago, I had a backup camera and have been using that. NOw the backup is failing and I need to get this unit working again.
