House built in 1979. Speakers only left in house. Grills in bad shape. Want to repair entire system.

Have no idea what I have but want to make it all work. Bought house with speakers only left. They say NuTone Scovill. Two in living room, two in bedroom and two outside above deck. Have connected a boom box to the "hole" in the wall and found that all speakers but one work. Grills are shot and have no unit to cover that ugly hole. Any ideas?
