we convert our video to DVD using Nero burner and we have to make a choice of minus or plus for the DVD (-R or +R)

we find that the -R works on some players and other times we have to reburn as +R. This isn't a problem when copying a commercial DVD or video. How can I find out which style I can use that will work all the time? I videotaped a wedding and when I copied to a DVD, it doesn't run right (it skips in little segments or other times, tells me to put the DVD in).
