Repair techniques for 'no power for JVC AV27980'

Add my parents to the list. My parents bought an AV27980 in 1998 from circuit city, in 2001 it gave the symptoms that so many of you have had with the capacitance problems. I called JVC, the extended warranty was expired by 2 days. JVC said to take it to an authorized repair center. Well there may be one in Houston, but in Kansas City there wasn't anyone who could help. 2 of the 3 'centers' were out of business, the other had a $100.00 fee just to look at, plus $50/hr. As a mechanical engineer, I felt bad for recommending JVC to my parents as a high end TV. I am going to try the 926 remedy and see if this won't correct the problem. I too am very disappointed in JVC, their service, and quality. Any respectable company would at least admit there is some type of problem here. Whether it was a bad batch of capacitors or poor engineering.
