If the tape will eject...try a new tape and make sure you take up the tension in the tape by rotating the wheel a little. That is a good habit to get into with VHS models. If the tape won't eject..then you have a service issue. Depending on how long you have had the unit..you may be in a better position to buy new unless you have warranty from the factory (1 year parts/90 days labor from date of purchase) or an extended warranty from an outside provider. If that is the case..contact the warranty provider for instructions.
