disk errors

is this a common problem with the mavicas? it's been saying "disk error" for quite some time....we cleaned (with rubbing alcohol) the lens inside the camera under where the disk lays and it seemed to help for a day or two, then started messing up again. It also has been making a growling noise when we try to save a picture and "locks up" like a computer does. Any ideas on how to fix this?
