Noisy Buttons

I have a master, twelve indoor units and two external to my Nutone Intercom system. They all make a horrible scrathy sound when the "Talk" buttons are used. The system was installed when the house was new in 1986. I have sprayed them with electrical contact cleaner but only made a marginal improvement. Can someone recommend a solution please?
