I also have this kind of problem... I bought a firewire and when i tried it out... the computer doesn't recognizes the hardware that is plugged in.. I dont think its the computer's problem.. i think its the camcorder.

I have the same camera and kind of the same problem. My computer recognized the camera but can't locate a driver file. Of course, I have win98SE, and it's isn't supposed to support the software. I don't know what I'm going to do either.
