av-32f704 "on timer" lites on, but nobodys home???

this tv is 2 1/2 yrs old and one day nothing. it wont respond to the front panel power switch or by remote. The unit will turn on for several seconds if you unplug then replug the power cord. I was a EE student, I know my way around electronics, replacing a minor component is no problem. I've read many threads of caps being bad in other models, ( 1000mf 35v,assumeing in the power supply?? ) Perhaps a latching relay? TOM P... if your out there, HELP please!! I cant afford the high repair cost. thanx in advance for anyones help Wes
