can't use video camera as error message flashing...

I have a JVC GR-D270 EK and I can't playback or record as a message appears on viewtab - unit in safeguard mode 03 eject and reinsert tape. I do this but it doesn't make a difference. The model is only 8 months old, I guess I'll have to return it but is there another way I can fix it ?
