Had the same message on my Digital 8 TRV-140 for the last 8 months. It works!

I'm not one to beat up on things when they quit working, but in this case, I took the battery off, gave a couple swift knees to the bottom of the unit, and Voila!!! It works. Now I can salvage my son's birth and birthdays and other occassions, transferring them onto my computer. I had since bought a DVD handycam and absolutely love it. Now I can take that on my work trips, and my wife will still have one to use. Whoever thought of this fix, it's great! Thanks!
