Recording on Sony HDD via Sony Freeview box

Hi - found this forum via google, hope somebody can help. I recently bought a Sony DVD recorder/Hard disk (RDR-HX525 - 80GB version) linked via co-ax and scart to a Sony freeview box. When recording from the 'Guide-plus' listings, the HDD automatically changes the viewing channel (overriding the current freeview channel) to that being recorded. If I return to the previously watched channel (using the freeview box remote), the recording is that of whatever the Freeview box is tuned to. This effectively makes it completely useless as a recording device when trying to watch something else at the same time. I've checked the manual but this doesn't feature in the FAQ/problem solving and my local Sony shop (where purchased) knows less about it than I do!. Heres hoping I'm being spectacularly stupid and there is a simple answer. Thanks Mark
