wrong laser?

I have one of the older playstations, and the laser burned out so i ordered a new one, and i put it in but it's a little taller than the original laser, and it rubs up against the bottom and won't move to read the disk. Is there anything i can do i do i have the wrong type of last, i bought it online and it supposedly works for my ps2 but i can't get it to work.
