hi mate,
i also have just come to use mine and i have exactly the same problem now with mine. i have not got a clue what has happened with it. did you manage to find out why this is happening and if so what was it and how much did it cost to repair? i have a feeling that the lens has packed up??

I took the camera to a repair shop. They told me I would need a new lens and that it would be expensive. Basically, they said I am better off just getting a new camcorder, so I did. I hope you don't have the same outcome!
