Re[2]: There goes another one - 7 yr. old Sony KV-27V40 DEAD !

G. Wood Posted Jul 19, 2006, in response to:Bruce

As I recall, it cost $130 parts and labor to replace the power supply and a couple of other related items. Mr. Wizard, Austin, TX, an excellent, very competent, extremely knowledgeable sole proprietor who has been repairing over 20 years told me the problem is that the machine welds somewhere around the power supply really need to be done by hand to be substantial enough to last a long time - as Sony buyers expect when they pay the typical Sony premium price of , what, 15% , 20% (?) for Sony's ' famous' "superior reliability" . Mr. Wizard said mass production just doesn't allow time for the caliber of weld needed. Let us never forget, dear consumers, corporations' top priority is ........ TO MAXIMIZE PROFITS FOR THE SHAREHOLDERS ! 5 JILLION UNITS SOLD A YEAR x A BUCK IN COSTS PINCHED HERE and THERE PER UNIT = $ 5 JILLION BUCKS MORE FOR THE PRINCES of PECUNIARY PAPER ! QUESTION:What product made today has clearly better quality vs 20,30 years ago?
