problems reconnecting car radio advice needed.

we have a cdx-4180r sony car radio, it hasn't been used for several years. we dont remember the code but we have tried to connect it up to a vehicle using all the same connections. it worked for a few minutes played cd ok.then we attempted to connect it to the ariel, we put this in the wrong hole! the hole was on the left hand side as you look at the back of unit. then the power went off and nothing more was seen on the screen. it sends out a few beeps now and again. could we have blown a fuse or has the security kicked in? power was showing as it returned the cd. please advise many thanks darren:)
