CAMERA WONT FOCUS

I have the little JVC model GR-D32 mini video camera and it wont focus no matter which direction I move the focus control. It acts as if the lens cap is on, whereby I am seeing some darkness mixed with lines. It does however play previously recorded disc beautifully, can you help with this problem? Thanks Sam J.
