does not turn on

Hi everyone, I have had this video camera since 97'. It uses 8mm tapes and I have many vacation videos I would like to convert to DVD. The problem is that it has been unable to turn on for a couple years now. I recently bought a new 6v battery with no luck, even replacing the flat little circle battery. If anyone has any ideas as to what could be wrong or other ways I could play the 8mm tapes, feel free to respond :)
