When the cabinet is opened or LCD flexible cable is touched, the symptom disappears. This is caused by connection defect or poor contact between connector and LCD flex cable due to the pressure or stress created by the rib in the front cabinet to the connector. RESOLUTION Refer to pictures shown in attached supporting graphics below for the correction procedure. Thanks Jimz The fix for the blank screen that someone posted re - pressing the bottom right of the case near the LED screen worked for me. This is the last time i Buy a sony product , it is my second sony that has had problems just after the warranty ran out ! Sony's standard repair costs are a joke at 114.00 quid Please send me the repair pics of the DSC-S40 screen problem. Thanks in advance.
