I think I figured out the intermittant error on the JVC GR-DVL100E - where it periodically goes into 'safe' mode and re attaching the battery makes no difference. one time it changed the error to CONDENSATION please WAIT I'm trying to dry it out now very gently and slowly in the warm air that passes up from the reverse side of a domestic refridgerator. A hairdryer would be lunatic given the number of dust particles it likely would blow into the inside of the camera (this must be done with the tape loading door open and the tape receive mechanism in the UP position). the intermittent characteristic of the fault would support the possibility the camera inside is hyper sensitive to very small changes in the air moisture content.
