Thanks to everyone for the advice. My AV27980, manufactured and purchased in 1999, has exactly the same problem. One night working fine, then the next morning would not turn on. I heard a strange sound, which I thought might be a capacitor charging and discharging (tough to describe on the internet, but kind of like peyouw, peyouw, peyouw, peyouw... ) I'll have my technician friend replace the capacitor that has been mentioned. It certainly seems like JVC has a recurring problem here. Peter Montreal, QC
