JVC GR-D72U camcorder, can I put video onto PC with USB cable? or just firwire?

Ive had thsi camera for almost two years and have not had any problems with it (other than the quality of the picture which I have gotten used too, but was upset about at first) But Now my boyfriend and I got a computer almost a year ago and I have been trying to put the video files on the pc from the mini dv... the computer doesnt have a firewire slot (althoughI have a firewire... not much good tho) I tried to use the USB cable and tried just about every option, but I still cant figure it out... Is it possible to use the USB cable to upload video from the mini dv? or do I need to go out and buy some sort of attatchment card for the firewire for the pc? PLEASE HELP!
