HomeJVC AV 32980 TV -- No power I have a JVC AC32980 TV. Yesterday it worked fine, today, no POWER. I see that others here listed on this forum have had the same exact problem. Is this an easy fix? Can you help??? TV was in perfect condition, beautiful picture until last night, and now it is dead in the water.

Replacing C926 worked on my set also. Wish common fixes were available on all consumer electronic products so amateur repair folks could save bundles. Thanks! I had the very same problem, read Tom Pajewski's 7-17-04 post, couldn't believe that it would work, took the back off the TV, found the C926 capacitor, spent $1.59 at Radio Shack for the replacement, soldered the new one in, and voila it worked like a charm. I have very basic soldering skills, so anyone can do this. Thanks Tom, and thanks to the vast array of information that can be found on the internet. L. White Thanks to the advice and thank god for the internet allowing people to share common problems. Saved big bucks. replaced 1000uf 35v capacitor c926 on the main board and presto it works again . Thanks All Very common problem with these tvs. Open the back and locate capacitor c926. Go to Radio Shack and buy 1000uF 35V capacitor for $1.59. Solder in new capacitor. Thanks for the reply, and YES a 1.69 item from Radio Shack, saved the day for a large expense. After the install, the JVC works like new. Thanks again to all. QUOTE: "read Tom Pajewski's 7-17-04 post: "Had the same problem with my JVC-32980.Working one day, next day nothing.changed out C926 with a 1000uF 35V capacitor that I bought at Radio Shack for $1.49. TV works like a champ. Took all of 20 minutes to fix." Now... I'm not handy AT ALL with sort of stuff, but I thought, heck, for $1.49 I'll give it a try. I unplugged the set, took all the screws off the back and looked for the C926 capacitor - they're clearly labeled. I noticed the part bulged at the top slightly -- (that is what indicated to Tom that the part was "blown.") I bought a new 1000uF 35V capacitor at Radio Shack -- my part cost $1.75. Then I pulled out the old part and soldered the new part in and bingo, I'll be darned! the TV worked again! Tom probably saved me at least $100 - 150." Same problem on July 17th, 2006, with an AV32980, worked before vacation, no longer working upon return? We had had a power failure so initially assumed a power surge, but the remainding electronics, receiver, VHS, CD, DVD players all powered up? Assumed dead TV, Mfg. Sept 1998. After reading this forum and the many confirmations of success, though I would attempt (am a newbie to electronics). Complete success, had to use a "1000uF V40" substitute, as the recommended "1000 UF V35" was unavailable. TV now works like a charm and the part cost me $.43, bought (3) for good measure and solder for $3.00 CDN...what a deal. For those other newbies, simple procedure: 1) remove rear cover (about 11 screws) indicated by an arrow 2) Locate the C926, on the main board, this can be tricky, so after about 20 minutes of looking, decided to slide out the board and yes was easier to find from underneath, as capacitor is marked C926 underneath (about 6 cm from bottom right corner). 3)Remove with slight pul (Plyers from above, while applying slight heat on board connectors from below. Note negative connection, mine was on right side facing and once capacior removed the 1000uF V35 was visible, whereas in place it faced the unit and could not be seen from top 4)Insert new capacitor (ensure negative (grey strip) same as original was and apply slight neat from underneath and presto. 5) re-insert board and any harnesses disconnected for board displacement 6) re-install cover Thank you to Tom and the forum for providing a $3.00 fix vs. a $600 to $900 replacement, the exercize was quite rewarding. Biggest problem was finding the capacitor (Radio Shack is now defunct), did locate at Abra in Montreal. |
