My JVC GR-D72U keeps giving error "Lens Cap" when it is not there. I just can't record anything.

I have used this camcorder sparingly. Now it refuses to record anything. Anytime I turn it on it gives me an error that the Lens Cap is there even though it is not. Can someone suggest what to do?
