Need to know what features I should look for + any suggestions for specific system.

I'm looking at buying a TV Projector for my new family room. I had heard that the more ANSI Lumens the better, but in shopping around I've seen 2000 lumen units going for $5000, so I know that's not the whole story. What specs do I need to look for in a unit? I want to run Direct TV, DVD and a computer through it, so what features should I look for? I want to keep it <$1200. I'm no videophile, but want something that is going to have a good picture without having to black-out the entire room. Any suggestions for a particular system would be appreciated as well. Thanks
