Call JVC 800-252-5722, currently option 7 then 2 at this point follow the prompts for your camcorder model. There is a manufacturers defect on several models that they will fix for free. They do ask for the model and serial number. The lens cap is one of them. You only have to pay to ship to them, they will fix in 1-2 days and send back out immediately. You need to call first so they have a record of the return.

Hi, It seems like fault in CCD unit, Because I am a service engineer and found that after replacing CCD unit, the problem got rectified.so either by yourself or by any quilified service engineer, get your CCD replacd or contact Authorised JVC service near you. Regards Subhash Sardesai.

I get the lens cap on my screen too. It wants me to set a time/date. It will record sound, but the screen is nothing by black. Please let me know if you hear anything.
