Contact JVC for service. Ask if they can check the sensor at the back of the tape mechanism. That repair should be about 1 hour to 1.5 hours of labor to remove and replace the part. I am not sure what the part cost is but see if they can help you buy discounting it. It never hurts to ask. JVC customer support is: (800) 252-5722
