Colour Problems with mini dv video camera

Hi I have had my camera just over a year, when trying to record the camera doesnt seem to pick up true colour, it seems the inhance what ever colour is dominent in the area. I was trying to video my daughters show dance, the hall had light but wasnt bright, but the recording looked all red, almost glowing. I tried today to point the camera out the garden to pick up the green or shed but it just showed on the view screen as a blur, it couldnt pick up any objects, i have been through all settings, i know its not the settings, it seems there is a problem with, maybe the exposure, or light filtering, not sure though.
