My Ps2 wont read any of my discs ne more

My Ps2 wont read any of my discs ne more , when i put it in it says reading disc for like a second , so i took off the top and looked at the lens , and when i put in a cd , the lens would pop up and flash red for like a second , i was wondering if it was supposed to do that or continue to stay red
