Sony DSC-U30 LCD screen doesn't work in picture/movie mode

Sony DSC-U30 LCD screen doesn't work in picture/movie mode. When I turn the camera on to take a pictue the LCD screen flickers then settles to a blank and black screen. However when I go into the mode which store my pictures taken the LCD screen works! Any ideas on whats wrong? Is it worth fixing? It's never been dropped and I've only taken about 1000 photos with it.
