SONY DAV-S300 DVD Auto calibration unsuccessful Help!

My SONY or should I say lame PONY DAV S300 has since the begining faulted to error 13 on ocasions. It has reached a stage now that if I attempt to play a DVD there is a possibility that after 20 or more attempts it might play. I've read up on the auto Calibration and have attempted auto calibration on SL DVD and DL DVD and both calibrations stop on error before calibration is complete. Is there a possibility of getting over this problem by changing the settings by completeing a manual calibration. If so is there any advice or procedure to follow. PS it is possible to play CDs and complete auto calibration for a CD.
