Sony dsc-p52 now has horizontal 'scan lines' in lcd display

hello, a sony dcs-p52 we have had for quite some time just now started displaying horizontal lines in the display,similar to a tv displaying noisy scan line artifacts... I snapped an image while this was happening, and the 'image' when downloaded to the computer is all black, i.e. no image. Nothing can be seen in the camera display before or after snapping an 'image', I would assume that is due to whatever is causing the noisy display. This camera has already had the shutter problem about a year ago, which I fixed by replacing the shutter motor/latch assembly. Other than that, it's been a fairly durable device. I do not have a service manual on this camera so I do not have any idea what may be causing this problem. Can anyone here tell me what sub-assemblies might be responsible and/or how much it might cost to fix this camera versus the low cost of purchasing a comparable camera? thanks in advance
