LENS CAP MESSAGE???

I put the camera away working in its case, and I took the camera out to use it about a month later, and now I am getting the message "Lens cap" as well as "safe-mode". I saw in another web site the same problem that I am having that was posted roughly a year ago. I also saw in that website that there was a suit against JVC, and I would like to know what is the out come. My camera is barely used and I spend a lot of money on it, and I am not statisfied that I am getting a message while I am tring to use it, in the record mode -- the screen is completely black and it is stating the above message.
