Solid black color on the video viewing screen.

It just recently started that when I turn on the camera the viewing screen is solid black. I am able still to record but it will only record sound. It then all of a sudden was working when in the middle of recording it started going blamk again. I was just trying to get some ideas before I take it to a shop that I probably won't trust.
