Sony Trinitron KV27TS29 27" TV - graphics vibrating, numbers distorted - on some channels
My Sony Trinitron KV27TS29 27" TV is, I believe, a 1998 model. I had it in for repair because it was not coming on at all. It has now been repaired in so much as it comes on, but I am not totally happy with the picture. According to the Repair Work Order, the following was done: "REPLACED POWER SUPPLY KIT AND HORIZONTAL REGULATOROR, REPAIR CIRCUIT, SETUP AND TESTED GOOD.
Re: the unsatisfactory picture...I have not seen the picture on this TV before as it was given to me. The former owner does not recall the following problems. On some channels with graphics, charts and numbers, the graphics / chart lines vibrate and some numbers are distorted. I have a 27" Goldstar and this does not happen to such an extent. I tested it without cable, plugging only the VCR directly into the TV. I inserted a VCR tape, and the same thing
happens -- the letters vibrate (in the beginning of the tape, where the Disclaimer warns against piracy etc.) Therefore, it does not appear to be the Cable Service.
The repair person claims that it is all inherent in this type of TV and that this is as good as the picture gets. When I suggested that he look at my Goldstar, he said that there is no point in comparing the two TVs as they are just different brands and "all TVs are different". I am surprised that my Sony Trinitron should be inferior in picture quality to my Goldstar (I thought it would be the other way around). In any case, I am disatisfied with the repair person's explanation and am looking for a second opinion. Am I being too fussy or should I expect a better picture? If the TV was new, I would not purchase it under these conditons.
