I have sone DSC 717 , no picture on screen rest all functions operational on camera , no droping no mishandling

I have Sony DSC 717 camera it was not mishandled suddenly I found when switched on it shows some coloured horizontal lines and no picture , when shutter release button is activated it you hear the sound of shutter release howeever in review it shows the same horizontal line picture , what could be wrong ?
