Problems with TV guide plus feature

I have a JVC TV mod# AV-27890 with the TV guide plus. We have had it for 8 years and really are lost with out the TV guide feature. Our problem is about 10 weeks ago we lost our TV guide plus, it shows all the selected channels, shows “no listings” and it says the next down load time is at what ever time. It goes through the download and we get the same message. Now, I’ve seen some other web sites were the say by selecting USA (I live in Canada) and imputing a zip code of 00000 will reset the controller. I can not do this. Once I pick USA and get to the zip code impute it just freezes up and I can not do anything. I have tried many times to start from scratch to reprogram the VCR plus to no avail.
