problem with camera as it is not able to view anything,all i can see are multi-colored vertical lines.

I purchased DCR-TRV460E model one and a half years back and though i never had a problem with it but one day when i turned it on it suddenly stopped vewing any picture,i mean the camera cannot see any image all i can see in the viewfinder and lcd screen are vague vertical multi-colored lines..can anyone tell me what this could be? has anyone faced same problem?
