How to program VCR to tape a future program

I have misplaced the manual for my 1998 or 1999 model 14" Daewoo tv and cannot figure out how to set it for Timer Recording. I have used the remote and gone through all the steps numerous times but when I Exit the programming does not "take." I would really appreciate someone going through the steps with me so I can find out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks very much.
